5 ways to speed up your Personal Computer

By following a few simple techniques, you can speed up your computer and keep it running smoothly. This article shows how to use the tools available in Windows XP and Windows Vista to efficiently maintain your computer and protect your privacy when you're online.

Free up disk space

By freeing disk space, you can improve the performance of your computer, and for this purpose a tool called Disk Cleanup can help you free up space on your hard disk. This identifies files that you can safely delete, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.

You can use Disk Cleanup to:

• Remove temporary Internet files.

• Remove downloaded program files (such as Java applets).

• Empty the Recycle Bin.

• Remove Windows temporary files.

• Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.

• Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

Detect and repair disk errors

You can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility, as you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing difficult, so the Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors, and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced.

Speed up access to data

Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system, as when files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece it back together. So, the response time can be considerably longer.

Disk Defragmenter is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk, so with your files stored neatly end-to-end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.

Protect your computer against spyware

Spyware collects personal information without letting you know and without asking for permission, so spyware can put you and your confidential information at risk. In addition to privacy factor, it can also effect your computer's performance. To deal with spyware, you might want to consider using Microsoft Windows Defender, which is included in Windows Vista, and is available as a free download for Microsoft XP. Alternatively, there are other free anti-spyware software programs available that you can use.

Use ReadyBoost

If you're using Windows Vista, you can use ReadyBoost to speed up your system, a new concept in adding memory to a system, it allows you to use non-volatile flash memory (USB flash drive or a memory card) to improve performance without having to add additional memory.

Mind Reading Computer By Intel-- Brings a Huge Change in The World of Technology

Reading human thoughts is always an interesting and mysterious field. Special Forces especially army and other intelligence agencies look for such devices which can read the human thinking. Such devices may be very helpful in detection and stopping terrorism. These agencies are supporting and conducting huge research on this project.

The engineers at Intel are making efforts to build a computer that will be able to look at a person's brain activity and determine actual words that they're thinking. The basic idea behind this device is that the activity generated in the average person by individual words can be mapped and stored in a database, to be matched against that of someone using the though control interface.

The results achieved till now are very encouraging. The basic machine has been made by Intel which can by the help of magnetic resonance scanner differentiate the daily usage words like screwdriver, house, and barn. The advent of machine which can search your brain like a search engine is possible but it may take several more years.

New 3D poster technology coming soon

The Fraunhofer institute, University of Kiel and RealEyes is showing a new technology that enables 3D posters for large outdoors advertisements (up to 5 meters) and these do not require any glasses. The researchers say that the display are similar to the lenticular images we've seen on postcards but instead of the grooved sheet with the image attached, the new posters use a lens array - 250,000 lenses and each 2 millimeters in diameter. The 3D image of the poster can be viewed from the other side of the street, and the image appearance changes with each step and adjusts to the visual angle. They have already built a DIN-A0 (1 sq meter) poster prototype, and they say that commercialization of larger posters (3 to 5 sq meters) is possible in coming 2011

Laptops are surely the best compact mobile devices but the input system of the laptop specially the touch pad causes a lot of problems for the users because it is quite slow and inefficient as compared to the standard mouse, it also causes pain in the joints of hands. Working on a laptop is not as convenient as working on the desktop.

One solution to this problem is to use the USB mouse with your laptop but it is highly impractical due to the large size of the mouse and also the cable attached with it , It is not possible to use this USB mouse everywhere, in all situations.

The best solution is provided by the SwiftPoint, by introducing a wonderful device known as the SwiftPoint Mouse. This mouse is the tiniest wireless mouse on the market and therefore it’s perfect for all laptops. The best thing about this mouse is that it can be used next to the laptop just as the standard mouse or even on the surface next to touchpad, so the place requirement which was the large issue in USB mouse is resolved. The design of the mouse is almost like a pen so using it is quite easy and it is user friendly.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is based on IEEE 802.11 standard and is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance that manufacturers may use to brand certified products that belong to a class of wireless local area network (WLAN) devices. The term Wi-Fi is often used as a synonym for standard IEEE 802.11 technology. The Wi-Fi Alliance is a global association of companies that promotes WLAN technology and certifies products if they conform to certain interoperability standards. As of 2010, IEEE 802.11 devices are installed in many PC (personal computers), video game consoles, printers, smartphones, and all laptop or palm-sized computers.Wi-Fi allows the deployment of local area networks (LANs) without wires for client devices (wireless networks) to reduce the costs of network deployment and expansion, especially for spaces where cables cannot be run, such as outdoor areas. As of 2010 manufacturers are building wireless network adapters into most laptops due to which the price of chipsets for Wi-Fi continues to drop, making it an economical networking option included in even more devices. Wi-Fi networks have limited range, a typical wireless router using 802.11b or 802.11g with a stock antenna might have a range of 120 ft (32 m) indoors and 300 ft (95 m) outdoors. Wi-Fi operates in more than 220,000 public hotspots and in tens of millions of homes and corporate and university campuses worldwide and its use (whether home or business oriented) is increasing day by day
